Merrillville Florist & Tea Room Begins a New Chapter While Preserving a Beloved Community Tradition

MERRILLVILLE, IN — For generations, Merrillville Florist & Tea Room has held a special place in the hearts of Northwest Indiana families. It has been a place to gather with friends, celebrate milestones, enjoy special traditions and create memories that have lasted for years.

Under new ownership, that tradition will continue — but with some important changes designed to help ensure that Merrillville Florist & Tea Room remains part of the community for years to come.

Moving forward, The Tea Room will focus on private gatherings, celebrations and special events, rather than operating as a traditional full-service restaurant.

The new owners understand that this change is disappointing to some longtime customers who have treasured visits to The Tea Room over the years.

“We know how much The Tea Room means to this community, and we don't take that lightly,” the owners said. “We have heard the stories, seen the memories people have shared and understand why there is such a strong emotional connection to this special place.”

When the opportunity arose to purchase Merrillville Florist & Tea Room, the business was at an important crossroads. Continuing exactly as it had operated in the past was simply not sustainable long-term. New ownership made the decision to invest in the business with the goal of preserving what could be preserved, while making the changes necessary to give it a strong future.

The Tea Room will continue welcoming guests for private events such as weddings, showers, anniversaries, as well as celebration of life events, Christmas parties, church gatherings, and more. They will also offer public events throughout the year for the community.

Merrillville Florist will also continue serving the community with beautiful flowers and floral arrangements for everyday occasions, holidays, weddings, sympathy, celebrations and special events.

“We aren't trying to erase the history of Merrillville Florist & Tea Room — we're trying to protect its future,” the owners said. “Change can be difficult, especially when it involves a place filled with so many memories. We hope our longtime customers will give us the opportunity to create new memories alongside them.”

The new owners are committed to honoring the warmth, charm and sense of community that made Merrillville Florist & Tea Room so beloved while building a business model that can continue serving Northwest Indiana well into the future.
